Arizona Pictures

OK We took about 140 shots (not all of them are keepers but we wanted to make sure we had plenty to choose from). Here are some of the ones that actually feature Covey and Justin and aren't just pretty scenery shots.

Back Safe and Sound

We arrived home safely from Arizona this morning (Tuesday) at 8:30 AM North Carolina time. We left out of Phoenix at 10:55 PM Arizona time (which is a 3 hour time difference--1:55AM NC time). Needless to say we are exhausted. Since Covey is working today from 11AM-8PM and tomorrow from 8AM-7PM it will probably be Thursday or Friday before any pictures are posted. Rest assured we took plenty of them!!

We got to see a bunch of really cool stuff. Here is a quick summary to satisfy any curious minds.

*Wednesday Night: 11PM Arrived in Phoenix, rented a car, went to the hotel and CRASHED! With the time change it felt like 2AM NC time.

*Thursday: Downtown Phoenix and Hiked up Camelback Mountain, a peak right in the middle of town (about 3 miles for Covey, 4 miles for Justin--Cletus tired his mama out so she had to stop on the way up before the really steep part). Justin got Mexican food!!!

*Friday: Up early and drove to Williams, AZ. Checked into our bed and breakfast. Hiked in a Ponderosa Pine Forrest (about 7 miles round trip from town). We got freaked out near the end of the trail when it looked vertical and we saw tons of Mountain Lion scat.

*Saturday: Took the Grand Canyon Railway to the Grand Canyon. Saw Elk and a mountain lion from the train. Saw the Grand Canyon. The wind was really blowing--about 35 MPH or so at the rim. YIKES! Drove to Flagstaff and checked into our hotel. Justin got Mexican food!!!

*Sunday: Drove out to the petrified forrest and painted desert and hiked around (about 6 miles total). WOW! The wind was about 40 MPH with gusts up in the 50's. Now we understand why people get blown over during tropical storms! Justin's legs got nice and pink from the wind burn! The scenery was absolutely awesome!

*Monday: Back to Phoenix via Sedona. Stopped at Red Rock and some other places in Sedona and hiked around those (about 2 miles). Justin got Mexican food! Hiked around the Southern Mountain Park in Phoenix (about 1 mile). Turned in the rental car and flew home.

Cletus and Covey did alright food wise on Thursday and Friday. After that, he acclimated or something and started making Covey really nauseous again starting on Saturday.

Cletus does like hiking a lot, but he does not like flying at all! He flipped and kicked and fluttered around during the takeoff and landing. During the flight he constantly reminded Covey how much she needed to use the bathroom! Sometimes window seats are a curse!

24 Weeks=6 months!

Hey all!
Short post this week as I am busy trying to pack for the Arizona trip. This will be the first time Justin and I have flown together and our first trip alone since the honeymoon. We are very excited. Covey is going to get to see a cactus and the grand canyon for the first time and Justin is going to get some really good Mexican food!

Baby news: Cletus is growing by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately the nausea has also returned with his recent growth spurt. Covey is now waking up sick during the night :( My belly doesn't look any bigger because I have lost some of my belly fat due to the nausea. The baby bulge underneath the layer of pudge continues to grow. Cletus is very active and, therefore, we assume healthy. Only two more weeks until the third trimester! We are getting very excited (but we are no more prepared). Oh well--perhaps after the Arizona trip and after the garden is all planted I can get my hubby to strip the wallpaper and do the baby's room.

Happy Easter

Justin and I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter Holiday. We pray that each of your was able to attend a worship service that emphasized the wonderful blessing that Jesus gave to each one of us by his death on the cross.

Happy Birthday Sherry and Bradley

Last night we celebrated Sherry's (Justin's mom) and Bradley's (Justin's 2nd cousin) Birthdays. We had a cookout and cake and presents. Covey made and decorated the cakes. Here are some cute pictures from the evening. Here is a picture of the "dress-up" outfit we gave Bradley.

Greenhouse Magic

Last Spring Justin and Covey spent several weekends constructing a greenhouse. We even dug a foundation!

This Spring, we are reaping the results of our hard labor. We were able to start most of the plants for our garden in the greenhouse in February and March. So far, Justin has been able to get the squash, cucumbers, peas, limas and snap beans into the ground. It was really great being able to go through the Burpee Seed Catalog and pick out the exact seeds we wanted. We didn't have to settle for the puny variety at Lowes.

We are holding off on the tomato, peppers and melons until after our trip to Arizona next week.

23 Weeks Along--We got a 1 pounder on our Bladder!

Well it has finally happened--Cletus is so big Covey cannot sleep on her belly anymore--sigh! She was laying in bed last night trying to get comfortable and Cletus kicked so hard that she was forced to turn on her side.

Cletus is big and strong as far as we can tell. He is very active, even without sugar and caffeine. He is also going through another growth spurt (or so we think) because the nausea has returned with a vengeance. Covey actually woke up twice in the middle of the night and was sick. Those baby hormones must be raging!

It is only 15 more weeks until we are 38 weeks. That is officially full term. Since it will be in the middle of July and HOT HOT HOT I am sure that we will be anxious for Cletus to go ahead and make an appearance.

As far as preparations for the baby we have: read tons of books, watched tons of videos and feel like we are as ready as we can be for the birth part. We haven't: bought a birth kit, done the baby's room, bought anything for the baby and in fact, we don't even have a crib.

Singin' Sadie

Here is a great clip of Sadie "singing."
She learned this trick in about 2 days--she loves to make noise! Whenever she is mopey we just give her the command and her tail starts wagging.

Al Bundy

Well for the past 3 weeks Justin has been calling Covey Al Bundy because everytime she is laying on the couch she has her hand down her pants, on her belly. There is good reason! She has been trying to feel Cletus move so that she can tell Justin when to feel for it.

All her Bundy ways paid off on Thursday night and Justin was able to feel little Clet-a-popper banging around around after dinner. He said it felt like a weird pulse, nothing too strong.

Since he is so small and you have to put your whole hand directly on Covey's belly (nothing through the shirt here folks) it is going to be at least another few weeks before any other people get the opportunity to feel Cletus.

22 Weeks--Cletus is a Sweaty Flirt

We are 22 weeks along and the morning sickness continues (Hooray--we haven't reverted back to all day sickness!!). Covey even ventured to eat ketchup on Sunday!

It seems that Cletus' biggest achievements this week are growing eyelashes and developing his sweat glands. I guess now he can bat his eyes and sweat. This, coupled with his ability to make urine, makes him really exciting if you ask me. He is now supposed to be about 7 1/2 inches long and weigh about 13 oz.

Cletus is responding a lot to noises now. His favorite are 80's Christian songs, specifically "Boycott Hell" by the Newsboys. (Actually any song with a good drum and his Mom singing along makes him move around a lot--we aren't sure if he actually enjoys it or is trying to find a way to escape Covey's singing voice)

Cletus was declared "perfect" by the midwife on Saturday. He is as big as he should be, heart is beating as fast as it should be and he is moving like he should be.

Baby Cletus' Heartbeat

Here is a video from today's midwife appointment. Covey's mom and dad were able to be there and meet our midwife. We were also able to find the heartbeat with the stethescope. Here is the doppler of the heartbeat. Covey's brother and his wife are listening over the phone.
