Black Friday

What is Black Friday??
Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving when major retailers around the country discount products to help kick off the Christmas shopping season. Do any of you remember being dragged out by your mother on the day after Thanksgiving to store after store after store?? I sure do! We used to say our mom "Shopped 'til we dropped." Are any of you moms out there guilty of subjecting your children to the same torture??

I was born without a shopping gene. I hate shopping. I go in, buy what I came for and get out! No browsing, no impulse buying--nothing like that for me! I do however love to give the "perfect" gift. I really like to think about Christmas and Birthday presents that I give people. I don't just go out and grab the nearest gift card or piece of jewelry. I really want it to be special and let the person know that they are special to me.

That said, with one munchkin here and another on the way, the budget is getting even tighter! I have to be thrifty and stay within my budget for Christmas and Birthday gifts. That's why I really like this site: Black Friday

This Black Friday ads are usually kept secret until you receive the circulars in your Thanksgiving Day newspaper. We don't get a newspaper, so we would either have to:
1) Check online at all the stores websites on Thanksgiving day
or
2) Put down the Turkey baster, drive to the gas station, find $1.50 in quarters and buy a paper.

At Black-Friday.net, they give you the advantage by showing you all of the Black Friday 2007 ads before anyone else. They also offer direct links to each product so you can purchase the items online on Black Friday without having to stand in line at the store!

Can you believe it?? I can shop from home, make my list and then on Friday buy it online. I could even do it during EJ's nap! I am so psyched!

They even have a place where you can enter in your email address and they will let you know when the ads have been updated. How cool is that??

There aren't just a bunch of no name retailers either. They have Target, Toys R Us , and Best Buy (among many others). So if you love to shop or hate to shop, go ahead and check them out!!

Happy hunting!!

Mama's Little Daredevil!!

You turn your back for a minute and this is what you find!! Elijah calls this his "cycle" as in motorcycle.

Yesterday was a big day--he learned so much! He said 5 new words and signed 3 new words. How on earth can he learn so much in one day!!??!!?? He signed elephant, help and spaghetti for the first time. He said "sketti" too--guess what his new favorite food is?? I just can't believe how much he is learning so fast.

Beach Baby!

At long last here are our vacation photos. It was a great trip! Elijah didn't sleep as well as I had hoped he would (I had visions of a worn out baby sleeping through the night), but it could have been MUCH worse. We really only had one terrible night down there--usually he just got up two or three times.

EJ's first time in the ocean. He ran full speed at the waves, got knocked down, crawled to escape and did it all again. He is a true beach baby!

EJ's hole--Uncle Cody hit on a great thing when he dug EJ a hole to play in.
"What sand??" Face flops in the sand didn't deter my little man from having a blast every day! After the first day we wised up and used a SPF shirt instead of trying to keep sunscreen on Mr. Sand.
Ahh-the Aquarium! We went hoping Elijah would get a kick out of the "kish" and he did. He ran from one tank to another shouting "KISH KISH-OOOOO-WHOA-KISH" It was too cute! The first time we went with everyone (Granny Grampy Cody and Kristi) then two days later Justin and I took him for a return trip. He LOVED it! He also learned the word eel and crab while at the aquarium.

Napping on the beach. We took it just before the tent blew over on us and coated us from head to foot in sand. It is a good idea in theory but it results in a very sandy, very grumpy baby!

Could the smile get much bigger?? EJ loved going to the baby pool to rinse all the sand off after a long afternoon at the beach.

Here's the cutie looking off our balcony in his not-so-coverup after a busy afternoon at the beach and the pool. There were about 15 roaming kitties that he loved to feed bread off the balcony. We had to go and see the kitties several times a day.
And Just to try out Bloggers new video function. Here is Mr. Echo in the tunnel going to the elevator in the condo.

Target Rocks!

This is NOT a sponsored post!

We went to Target today--we hardly ever go there but I needed to pick up a few things and the Walmart was a madhouse. While there EJ was hungry so I went to the little cafe thing in the front of the store. They had an Organic Kids Meal!! I couldn't believe it and for only $3.99! I got it--Mac and Cheese, a Milk Box and a Yogurt tube--all organic. It was great and Elijah ate like a pig. He ate 1/2 the Mac and Cheese, the entire yogurt (orange yogurt--Yuck!) and drank 3/4 of the milk--cold!! I was shocked! He then went home and took a 2.5 hour nap. Full tummys are good! 2.5 hour naps are better!!

Target Organic Kids meal rocks and I can definately see running out there instead of the Wendy's or some other fast food place when we need a quick meal on the run. You might want to check out your target and see if they have the same thing.

An EJ Fix

Ok here are some pics of EJ in the Mai Tai and at the park.
It might have to satisfy for a while as we are heading to the beach and I am not sure what kind of internet action we might have there.

Underdog!

The front carry--He likes this one!

Weird Pregnancy Cravings!

OK--with Elijah I was so sick I never had any cravings. While I was nursing I craved raw potatoes with salt and sweet gherkin pickles (vlassic brand only!!). Now that I am not nursing and I am pregnant I am craving cooked potatoes with salt. Strange--I know.

So anyway, last night we were watching Iron Chef on the Food Network and Cat Cora started boiling some Yukon Gold potatoes. I just about died--they looked so good! We didn't have any potatoes in the house since I avoid the cravings by just not having the tempting food around. So what did I do? At 9:45pm I put on my garden shoes, grabbed a flashlight and went and dug 3 red potatoes out of the garden. I quickly peeled them and zapped them in the microwave. Justin just laughed at me. I am probably the only pregnant person in town, maybe even the country that dug her own potatoes to satisfy a craving at 10pm at night.

Elijah's First Sentence!!!

Said while eating a granola bar after his nap this afternoon:
"Dat good cookie--Mmmmmm"

My New Sling!!!

EJ is too big for the Snugli and on the nights when he is super clingy I just about die from slinging him in my pouch sling. It is great, but 25 lbs on one shoulder gets heavy after a while! This is my new Mai Tai sling. Normally these things are about $90 but this one I got for $25 from a new company who was looking for evaluators. I think this sling rocks!! I only wore it about 15 minutes last night but having his weight on both shoulders was great. It also has a pouch on the strap for holding keys or money or whatever. The weight limit on this one is 50lbs so we ought to be able to use it for a long time to come. You can also sling on the front and do a hip carry with this sling (though we haven't tried that yet).

Hotels Rock!

I don't know if anyone else loves to stay in a hotel as much as me. Justin just got back from a week long business trip and he has several more planned and he is kinda passive about it. Come on!! Where else can you set the thermostat to 50 degrees and pile on the covers in the summer time??!! Where else do you get the excuse to eat out 3 times a day!! The free breakfasts can't be beat either! I love the excuse to eat doughnuts and unhealthy things because they are free! No cooking, they change the sheets for you! That is one thing I miss a lot about my job with the state--overnight travel.

If you like traveling and want to find some really good deals on hotels and even vacation rentals like houses at the beach head on over to Hotel Reservations. They look to me like they have some really great deals. You can even choose fancy destinations like France to visit! I was checking out their website and they offer a $30 gas rebate, road trip search and destination guide. Their search tools are great and so easy to use. I can see how you could plan your whole trip with this site. It is really great the deals that they offer! With the state we always had to stay below the "state rate" on hotels--this site would have made it so much easier to find those deals!! They seem to really be one-upping the other sites I have used before. I can hardly wait until Elijah is sleeping well enough that we can plan a trip with just the three of us. I think a 2nd baby moon--before Baby Denton #2 comes along is just what we need! Maybe we can plan to go someplace warm and sunny since this one will be coming in March.

Hurricane Elijah Strikes Again!

It never ceases to amaze me how much mess a one year old can make and how little time it takes him to do it. Case in point--I left him for 2 minutes in the den while I started a load of whites. I came back and all but 4 books were off the shelf and all of his play food was scattered around. Whew!!

On an unrelated note here is Elijah enjoying a fresh homemade banana smoothie for his Birthday treat. He loved it!!

Granny Grampy Nana and Papa--Need your help!

Check out the word list for Elijah and add in any words or signs that I am missing. His vocabulary is growing so fast now I know there are some I am missing. I want to get a complete list of his 1st year words and then I am calling it quits!! Whew--too many words for me to keep track of!

Happy Birthday Elijah!

Wow! Its hard to believe our little man is almost one! Here are some pics from today's party. He had a blast!

Trying on his hat and glasses with Granny.

Checking out the cake and cupcakes--he made his "bzzzz" noise everytime he saw them. This boy knows what cake is and that it tastes good!!

Eating the wings off his bee cupcake-YUM! He didn't get nearly as messy as we anticipated (note: diaper only attire and plastic tray cover). He liked it too much to waste it!Posing with Mom and Dad--he really did have fun (despite the expression on his face!).

Bee-utiful Birthday Cake

Here is the cake I just finished for Elijah's party tomorrow. It is inspired by his favorite book-"Buzz Buzz Busy Bees" My favorite part is the 3-D bee wings (made of white chocolate).
