Desperate for Labor Pains!

Oh my goodness. I didn't know sciatica could hurt this bad! The pain I am in is worse than back labor with Elijah! I am so prayerful that labor will start soon. Yesterday the pain was so bad I couldn't pick up Elijah at all, had to call Justin home from work, begged a massage off of my Massage Therapist SIL, threw up trying to come down the stairs from the pain and got tunnel vision a handful of times trying to walk across the room. Today is shaping up to be the same :( Thankfully my parents showed up last night and have already assumed Elijah-duty. They are here to help through the weekend. Hopefully Ferncliff will arrive soon and the sciatica will go away. What is it with me and posterior babies??!!??

If you think about it please say a quick prayer for me and my back.

Hopefully the next post will include some nice pictures of Ferny on the outside :)

Snake, Snapping Turtle and Baby Update

Well, we were supposed to go to the beach this past weekend for our last family of three hurrah but I chickened out. I was having contractions every hour and I didn't want to go into labor 3 hours from home. So we hung out around the house and went to the Imagination Station on Saturday afternoon. Elijah loves this place. They have turtles, snakes, lizards and tons of hands on activities. Most of the hands on stuff is too old for him yet, but he loves playing in the giant mouth and playing in the boat. He also loves looking at the animals.

Here he is looking at a tortise. He actually said tortise after the museum guy said it wasn't a turtle. The funniest thing EJ did was when his daddy showed him the snapping turtle he started snapping his fingers (like Grampy does) and saying "napping turtle." I tried to get him to do it on camera but he refused.

Kaleido-baby--Elijah thought this was a trip. He could look through and see our face and we could see his. He kept going back and forth to see mommy then daddy.

We were the only ones in the animal area so the museum guy offered to let us hold and pet the snake. Elijah would have made Steve Irwin proud--he reached right out with his "gentile hands" and pet it. He loved it!

Baby news--Midwife appointment went well. Baby is DOWN in the pelvis and feel to be much bigger (even though I actually measured smaller). I actually have less swelling and a lower bp than last week. My back is about 10 times worse though and I have had to start taking tylenol again just to get up the stairs. :( I am ready for the baby to come out!!
Sabrina really feels like this could be the week. She made sure I had all of her numbers--cell, home and pager. I am just hoping Friday isn't the day--it would be weird to have a baby on the 29th of Feb.
Be in prayer for us as we prepare and also that Elijah would sleep. He was up 4 times on Sunday night and up from 2-5am last night. It is really wearing us out! I am off to nap with him now!

Catching Up

It's been a busy few days. My nights have been plagued with freaky dreams and contractions so I've been napping iwth EJ and letting other stuff go. I finally figured out the contractions must be because I am getting dehydrated overnight so I drank a ton yesterday and only had about 5 overnight bad enough to wake me up. Unfortunately I had to get up 7 times to pee and EJ was up three times so I still didn't get a very good nights sleep :( God is really preparing me to be ready for labor with this one!

On Wednesday EJ and I went to the Rocky Mount Children's museum for their Free Day. I can't say that I would pay admission for this one, but for free it was well worth the drive!! We were there during the Alligator feeding time and Elijah flipped his lid! He loved it. He also loved the ball pit and the computer upstairs. We will be going back again I am sure. Here he is with the stuffed alligator.

Elijah has also been way into bugs lately. We showed him how to turn over rocks to find grubs and roly poly bugs. He also found a lady bug in the playroom. He was playing with his "Bee Bop Band" yesterday which has tons of instruments all made from bugs. We were talking about the antenna and I asked him if he wanted to make a bug hat. He was all for it so we did. Here he is showing his daddy his bug hat and the one that we made for me is in his hand. He had a lot of fun making it and picking at it but didn't much care to wear it. Oh well--I felt like a super creative mommy anyway. (Oh and by the way--I love that shirt--he calls himself "Super-lijah" when he wears it. I have to make him a cape!)

Last night Justin and I were doing our devotion with Elijah. We were talking about the parable with the seeds-some fall on good soil, some among weeds, some on good soil, some are eaten by birds. Elijah didn't know what seeds were so we said they were like nuts, berries and acorns. Little things you cover in dirt and they grow into plants. We also told him about the garden and that he would be planting beans and zucchini seeds with mommy. He heard "zoo-kitty seeds" and started saying "Meow, meow. No plant kitties, want dogs." Too funny!

Midwife visit went well. The baby did drop. That's about the only new development. Another appointment in a week. Hopefully I will see her before then :) I have been given the official "all clear" as far as labor goes. I had about 20 contractions overnight--8 or so were strong enough to wake me all the way up. The others just gave me freaky dreams. Sigh--this could go on for weeks!! Why do we always get so impatient at the end??

Elijah and the Baby

Elijah is baby obsessed. I don't talk about the baby much unless he brings it up, which is daily. Yesterday, he was upstairs after his 30 minute nap (the only nap he took all day--talk about a grouch!!) and he pointed to my belly. "Baby?" He asked me. I told him the baby was still in there (he checks every time he wakes up like I am going to hide the baby from him once it is out :) ). Anyway he said, "Now time. Baby come out! (to my belly) Baby OUT NOW!" I told him God said it wasn't time yet and he pitched an all out temper tantrum, kicking-screaming-stomping on the floor. He is ready for the baby to come out. He tells me it is a girl now.

I am inclined to agree with EJ on the baby front. It would be nice if the baby decided to make an early debut. I think I am more than ready to end the backache and the kicks in the ribs. Sometimes I wish I could force the timetable more :)

We've got a midwife appointment tonight. Updates to follow I'm sure.

Purina Diet

My Hubby sent me this and I had to laugh. Rather than spam your inboxes I thought I would share it here.

The Purina Dog Chow Diet

The next time someone asks you a dumb question, wouldn't you like to respond like this?.....

Yesterday I was buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for Athena the wonder dog at Wal-Mart and was about to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired, with little to do, on impulse, I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, and that I was starting the Purina Diet again. Although I probably shouldn't, because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets wi th Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you fee l hungry and that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story.) Horrified , she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no; I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's butt and a car hit us both.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack, he was laughing so hard!

WAL-MART won't let me shop there anymore.

Free Stuff and Nesting!

Well Valentine's day turned out great! Elijah had a meltdown as soon as his daddy got home and I decided we were all going out to eat at Chick-fil-A. That's EJ's favorite restaurant (Ruby Tuesday's is his 2nd--mmmm salad bar!). Anyway, Justin looked at me like I was crazy. I wanted to haul this screaming toddler to a restaurant, try and get him in a high chair and eat?? I assured him I did and off we went, screaming toddler in tow. Well, Elijah immediately perked up when "Rappi Santa" came on in the car (Raffi--Must be Santa--thanks for the CD Granny and Grampy). After three times through the song we pulled up to the Chick-fil-A with a giggling toddler. He saw the sign and said-"nuggest and noney mostard-Yum Yum!" He ate 5 nuggets, 2 fries, drank a juice, 1 kids ice dream and 1/2 a strawberry milkshake. (This is after a lunch of a bowl full of chili, yogurt, 2 soy nuggets and 20 grapes--can you say growth spurt!?!?). He loves to watch the kids in the kid cooker climbing and playing. He only fussed when it was time to go and we wouldn't let him play. He is just too small to get in there with the big kids and the kid cooker was packed! Anyway--Chick-fil-A was awesome for Valentine's day. They handed me a long stem rose when we walked in. Had a guy in a tuxedo open the doors for us. They brought the food to the table, which had a black tablecloth and candle on it. Then they came around with a dessert menu and offered me a free dessert. How can you say no to a free dessert? It was one of the most romantic Valentine's dinners ever! I loved it! I think we are going to make standing plans to do that every Valentine's day. It was so fun!

Then yesterday, Friday, I went to Quiznos subs after dropping off Elijah at his Nana's house. This is the first time he has been there in a month since he got sick and then they got sick and then we went out of town. I have to say it was nice to get a little break from Mommyhood. Anyway, I wanted to use my gift card that Great-Grandmama gave me for my birthday and treat myself to a sub. Well, you have to call and activate the card (I didn't know) and the line was busy. After about 5 minutes of trying, the manager saw me and decided it wasn't worth it and gave me my sub for free. She suggested I go online to activate it. WOW--a FREE sub!! Quiznos is my absolute favorite restaurant in the world--the sandwiches remind me of the bocadillos I loved to eat in Spain. Anyway--I really enjoyed my free sandwich.

All fueled up on sandwich I decided to get cleaning. It is so much easier to clean and straighten without my little "helper". I think I must be nesting because I went through and got all the stuff together for the birth, went through the blankets etc and organized them, washed and folded and put up all the newborn cloth diapers (they are so cute and tiny), cleaned the microwave stand, cleaned off the top of the fridge, reorganized the playroom, moved the changing table downstairs and the dresser into the nursery, picked out the baby outfits I want Ferncliff to wear first (pink and blue!!), straightened up and did some other stuff. Maybe this is a sign the baby will come this week. I sure hope so! This backache is getting old!

To top if off my hubby let me go cropping (scrapbooking) last night at church so I had the night completely off. So here I am. I was in bed at 10pm. Elijah slept until 1am, Justin calmed him down and came to bed with me. Then EJ slept until 5:45 this morning. I put him in bed with his daddy and they are still up there snuggling. I hit a few yard sales this morning--got a great crib pad and sheet, a floaty vest for EJ for the pool this summer, a UNC outfit for EJ, some dress shoes for EJ and a farm toy still in the package for EJ (backup in case jealousy over the new baby warrants a new plaything) all for $10. Score!! I've even had time to enjoy a cup of coffee and blog and it isn't even 7:15. Ahhh--what a good nights sleep can do for you!

Happy weekend everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day and a Parent Question

Happy Valentine's Day. Elijah is having a rotten day (it started at 3am :( so he is a bit grouchy. ) He did really enjoy his present from Granny and Grampy. He had a roll of Pez candy in the Pooh dispenser they gave him before I dropped him off at childwatch at the YMCA. Hee hee I am glad I didn't have to deal with that sugar rush on top of his sleep deprivation :) At least his best bud Matthew was there to help him burn it off!

I called hubby and I am exhausted so we are probably going to go to Chick-Fil-A or something like that tonight since I am too tired to cook. I think it will be WAY more relaxing that eating at home. Elijah is wearing me out today! That and the fact that I am 36 weeks pregnant :)

I am getting so excited about this baby. I have ready Baby Wise and plan to try that. Hopefully that will help this baby sleep better than Elijah. If it doesn't work I can't be too much worse off. At least it gives me a starting place for a routine (which I KNOW we will need!). This is the point where I start really wondering if it is a girl or a boy and it is driving me nuts!! I love the suspense! It is so fun not knowing!

OK--Now for the Parent Question

We are on a toy catalog list and got this really neat catalog called Sensational Beginnings yesterday. Elijah was looking through it and so was I and we saw this:

Does anyone know if this is a good company? Is this Playhut durable? Is it as fun as it looks? I love the fact that it all collapses down into 2 storage bags. I remember having a tunnel when I was little and really liking it. I think it would be great for rainy days. It is less than $200 bucks when you add in shipping. I couldn't find any on ebay but I was thinking this might be a great splurge on Elijah for his birthday or for Christmas this year. (Christmas could be for both munchies since Baby Denton #2 ought to at least be scootching around). Anyway--I would love some feedback on this from any of you more experienced parents.

Hippo and Copter

Got to love the way he says these words!

A random note: If any grandparents are planning to bring a present for the baby when it comes, a present for EJ would be appreciated too--we're trying to nip any jealousy issues in the bud. We went on a play date yesterday and the little girl had some doll babies and a pretend coffee maker. He would love to have a doll baby that the clothes come off and he can change the diaper. He would also like a "Monkey George" small stuffed doll (Curious George). In case you were looking for ideas.

My Little Big Man

Yes--cords and a belt--"Belt like daddy" is what he said this morning. His pants didn't have elastic either--just big boy pants with a zipper and a snap.

Baby News

Well--it doesn't look like Ferncliff is on the way this week. I am about 2 cm dialated but not at all effaced or anything like that. It was a good appointment though it ran long and I had to miss my LLL meeting :(

The baby had a heart rate of 144 and had a major growth spurt.

My belly was 3 cm bigger this time than last and the baby felt a lot bigger to my midwife too.

Thankfully, my midwife gave me the go ahead to take Tylenol for the back pain. It is awful! There were days when I couldn't even make it up the stairs--Tylenol seems to take the edge off. UGH! I know misery in the last weeks is God's way of preparing us to be ready for labor and for the pregnancy to end! Other than back pain I'm feeling great. No swelling. Still going to the gym. Still able to shave my legs and put my own socks on :) It is nice not having a HUGE belly to deal with.

What do you do in mid-February when Granny gets back from Hawaii?? Pretend its summer and take pictures in front of the wood stove!

Matching shirts! (Daddy has one too but is still on his business trip)

Here I am finally showing!! Today, for the first time this pregnancy, I had a stranger ask me when I was due!! (I wasn't wearing this outfit though!)

The whole clan--silly faces and all!

A Little Dirt Never Hurt!

A trip to the creek was great. Mommy almost didn't make it back up the steep hill carrying the little mister--too many "prickers" prevented EJ from walking back by himself. Being 35 weeks pregnant and hobbling around like an old maid from back pain made for an interesting trip back to the house. Elijah loved the water and splashed and got super muddy. He got a little upset about the mud until I said it was OK. I think the phrase I said was "Getting dirty is OK. God made dirt." He kept saying "God makes dirt. Dirt fun!"

A Parting shot: Perhaps THIS is why Elijah isn't napping well at Grampy's house :)

Funny T-shirts

Well--I am in C'ville and I can't find the thingy to hook my camera up to the computer so I am going to just blog about something random and do pictures later.

We actually had a pretty good trip last night with Grampy--EJ fell asleep about 9:45pm and slept the last hour and a half of the trip. He then slept almost 6 full hours alone without waking me up! It was wonderful! Today he is tired and grumpy and out of his element (he also refuses to nap--he is in there now throwing stuff out of his crib) but hopefully once grampy gets home his mood will improve. We went to the creek today and both ended up muddy and nasty. It was fun! He liked it. I took some pictures I'll try and post later.

If anyone is looking to get me something funny for the baby head on over to this website. They have some funny t-shirts for babies. One of my friends got me a onesie that says: "Nothing is Wrong. I'm Just Messing with You." I love it!! I would have loved to had a shirt for EJ that said "Boob Man." I probably wouldn't take him out in public with it but I sure would smile a lot around the house seeing it. (That said I also love the hubby t-shirt at the Lactivist that says "I play with my child's food") My favorite one of the ones at pollytod is the one that says "Breastfeeding Baby, Enjoy the Show" and the other that says "My mom is too lazy to make a bottle" AMEN to that!!
